SEXUAL MAGIC AMONG THE TRIBES OF KALI

Kalikas are a strange brood. Kali’s children, you might call them. Though she is a barren mother. Consider this paradox for a moment.

In Hindu folk religion of Dravidian origins, the Mahavidyas are ten emanations of Kali, including Mahakali as the first of the ten. These infernal witches grant all desires of their devotees. They confer magical abilities, the secrets of beauty and youth, the power to paralyze, strike dumb, kill with a glance. None of the Mahavidyas are sweet, soft-hearted, nurturing mother types. They are wild witches of terrific aspect, like the Faeries of the Celtic Otherworld, who render barren the wombs of women.  They sterilize men for a lark.

Kalika is an adjective formed from Kali. It means Kaliesque, in the fashion of Kali. It also means a devotee of Kali. In traditional lore such as the Mahanirvana Tantra and Kulanarva Tantra, those tantrikas who take the path of Kali are called kaulas, COW-lahs. The word kaula is the key to many events that will transpire in the last 200 years of Kali Yuga. Kaula in turn is almost interchangeable with kula, “root, base, clan.” In Tantric jargon, kula means “ass, booty.”  Crudely speaking, Kalika practice is ass-worship, devout adoration of the haunches of women. Easy enough to say, but do not imagine it is easy to know what this actually means.

Tribes of Kali

Scholars write endlessly on the meaning of kula. It is perhaps the single most debated term in academic studies of Hindu Tantra. (It plays no role in Tibetan Tantra, where it is replaced by the cult of the guru.) Just imagine, serious academics are pondering the signification of ass, booty. Kalika practice is a booty cult. Historically, these arcane terms kula and kaula are leading clues to what will emerge in the last days of Kali Yuga, through the nine generations from 1945 to 2216. There is little in received textual material to indicate the true nature of Kalika practice today and in the future, but we can steer by these exotic and sensational terms, for now.

Not only scholars but adepts themselves, those who have left some record of their mystical attainments (written down between the 11th and the 17th centuries, drawn from oral traditions dated to the 7th century CE, for what that’s worth), indulge in elaborate discourse on kula. Auspicious Wisdom by Douglas Renfrew Brooks and Kiss of the Yogini by David Gordon White present countless pages of exposition on this term.  Yet they never get to the essence of it. They cannot know from external sources what kula means, or what kula-worship entails.  Kala Tantra is a closed system, not in the sense of exclusion or a cultic control game. No, not at all. It is closed in its most intimate aspects because the operative language, involving terms such as kula, acquired externally, cannot convey the secret of this path, pornographic sexual mysticism.

Until now, Kalika practice has been orally transmitted.  The received texts disclose some outrageous features of “Kali worship,” but there is more to come. In this essay, I will go pretty far with disclosure in written form. As far as I will allow myself for the moment.

So, straight to the point: kula is the ultimate secret of the tribes of Kali, the Endtime Tribes. In fact, kula means tribe or clan. Historically, the secret Tantras initially imparted by Shakyamuni to a small group of intimate friends have been preserved by a tribal or clan lineage. This type of lineage is distinct from the guru-based lineage system of Tibetan Tantra, or any other guru-centered program.  Kula is tribe solidarity, heterogeneous, pluralistic, non-hierarchal.  In the future, starting right now, the entirety of Kala Tantra in theory and practice will be preserved and propagated by tribes and clans. These clans are now forming in the youth movements all around the planet, the Rainbow Gatherings, Burning Man, and many other festive events.

Alright, clear enough. What I am saying is rather obvious in certain ways, I guess. But I am not yet halfway into the secret meaning of kula. Ask yourself this: How can there be tribes or clans if they do not propagate themselves biologically? The very word tribe refers to a blood-based group, an extended family or community of extended families. The tribes grow, the clans survive, by the continuous addition of offspring to the membership. They have children.

Fine, that is the mundane fact. But the tribes and clans of Kalikas do not rely on offspring. They do not have children. The infernal witches who oversee Kalika practice are barren, and they favor barrenness and inflict it where they wish to do so. The increasing rate of male sterility across the planet is a signal of their operations. In this way, they cooperate with Gaia’s purpose of taking the human species to the brink of extinction in order to select the genetic stock for the future cycle, the golden age to come.

Sexual Regeneration

Kula is worship of woman’s haunches because the haunch, the female pelvis in its totality, is the seat of a higher generation, not merely the receptacle of male seed and cradle for procreation. I put this statement in print here, though I would rather deliver it, orally. But no one has yet shown up to say it to, so I am taking precipitous action.

Kula is worship of the ass for another reason as well: anal intercourse is an infallible form of birth control. (De Sade said this, much to his credit. He certainly did not know that anal sex constitutes a very special rite in Tantra. Of which, more in another post.) Why is birth control necessary, if the women in the Kalika practice are barren? Well, they are not literally barren: they are able to bear children, but do not. The barrenness is not of the body, corporal, hormonal and biological, it is barrenness of desire. The true Kalika woman is childless because she is barren of the desire to bear children. The Mahavidyas with Kali at their head inspire in young witches barrenness of desire. This a deep secret of their infernal operations.

The tribes of Kali produce no children. Children will come to seek refuge among the tribes, and in this way alone their ranks will be filled, and increase. There will be plenty of lost, abandoned, crazed, abused, and starving children for the occasion.

Now, there is another layer to the hidden meaning of kula. It means “base” as in the base codes of DNA. The higher generation Kali oversees is a magical process, the birthing of magical children, if you will. This is not a fantasy of mine. Magical children have been produced in the Western tradition of ceremonial magic, if you would care to look in that direction for some clues and cues.  The “moonchild” is the offspring of a magical union. Among Pagan cultures in the past, mainly the Celts, the production of moon children who were conceived with the help of, and raised by, Faeries and other supernatural denizens, was an essential part of seasonal Pagan ritual. Magical children are the Pagan and Tantric equivalent of tulkus.

So, the tribes of the future will be populated by abandoned children and by magical children produced by rites of Tantric union. In some cases, the magical child and the stray orphan who arrives from the ruined world will be identical. A Kalika couple practicing sexual magic will draw to the kula, the clan, a lost, wandering child who answers to the magic they set into play.

Regeneration, not generation, is Kali’s prerogative for her devotees. Although she has no mercy for the human species at large, except the sublime mercy of starving it of its self-serving illusions, Kali favors those who regenerate. The supreme method of regeneration is sexual. Kula, woman’s pelvis, is the altar of regeneration, the shrine of sexual worship. But for this to be so, the desire for generation must be totally renounced. Both men and woman worship kula because the rituals of regeneration entail alchemical mixtures in the alembic of the cunt. For kulas, the cunt is not a birth canal. It is a vessel of transmutation, the “test tube” of sexual alchemy.

“The Kaula rites were grounded in the cults of the Yoginis, medieval heiresses to the Matrikas [Infernal Mothers], Yakshinis [female Dryads or tree-goddesses] and Grahanis [spirits of possession, as in Haitian voodoo rites].” D. G. White, Kiss of the Yogini. White cites a late Tamil medieval poem, the Kamapanacastiram,  that gives explicit instruction on oragenital worship for regeneration.

Taking the protruding, throbbing jewel of her yoni
gently, gently between your teeth and tongue,
suck it like a suckling feeding at the breast;
it will rise and glisten, stand up from its sheath.
It will swell like a large ruby.
The fragrant copious discharge
appearing like sweet foam
between the lips of the vulva
is a rejuvenating drink when mixed with your milk-white,
lustrous, thick and fragrant sperm.

If you were wondering if there might be some  sexual practices in Kala Tantra, there you go. Women also eat other women, or themselves.  Menstrual blood is sometimes a potent ingredient in these rites. The Guyhasamaya Tantra and other highly protected Tibetan texts describe rites with menstrual blood, but lamas, karmapas, and rinpoches, including the Dalai Lama, will not admit to these procedures. Nevertheless, these rites are described as clear as day: “In the secret consecration, the master, who personifies Vajrasatva, practices sexual yoga with the mudra [female consort] in menstruation” (The Chinese Hevajra Tantra).  In the male-dominated hierarchy of Tibetan Tantra, such rites are controlled, suppressed, and concealed. This is a deplorable scandal, about to break. The Tibetan double standard and lamaist rule of secrecy has to end. In the emergent tribal communities of Kalikas, these rites will be totally out in the open.

Mahanirvana Tantra IV, 43: “There is no teaching in this world superior to the Kaula doctrine, the most excellent of all. This is the paramount path of liberation kept hidden only due to the ignorance of materialistic people, but when the Age of Kali advances to its end, this path will be revealed to all.”

The stanza from the Tamil ritual poem shows exact knowledge of the anatomical and hormonal function of the clitoris., “the jewel of the yoni.” Its color, texture, and erection are vividly described. The “sweet foam” of the cunt is a rich mix of hormone-charged fluids. In all, there are nine specific secretions of the yoni, compared to the paltry three components of semen. The clitoris itself has seventeen parts, its protruding nub being only the tip of a branching system of super-sensitive nerve-fibers, sponges, and interacting ducts that occupy the interior of the pelvis: kula, the altar of regeneration.

To conclude: Kula is both tribe, the place of refuge, and the seat of regeneration, Tantric sex magic, whose rites are practiced by the members of the tribe. Refuge and regeneration go together. The emergence of the Kaulas, the Kalika clans, is now ongoing. Those who oversee this event, intimate with its secret necessities, are the rare company of seers who have the eye and coil of the Naga, serpents of uncanny intent. The Nagas are Kali’s cool-blooded, austere ambassadors.
